Living History and Re-enactment
What better way to present the 1940's. We will attend in 1940's dress and provide background information about Lindy Hop and the well known wartime dance - Jitterbug. As well as performing we will discuss the times surrounding this kind of dance. We will teach a simple routine which can be performed with a partner but not as a partnered dance. This pattern of teaching has been used at Duxford Imperial War Museum Schools day for several years as well as at a number of other schools. This approach suits younger children.
Dance Workshops
For older children a dance workshop will enable a group of students to try some authentic 1940's dancing. This could include partnered dancing or a solo routine such as the Shim Sham (a Vaudeville based Tap routine) or Strolling. The workshop will build confidance and communication skills as well as fitness. The workshop will be modified to the abilities of the children present and will suit both those who are keen dancers and those with no experience. A Lindy Hop workshop can also provide excellent material for performances and plays.
